i prefer using php and drawing some images, so the game might be simple, but effective as travian or torncity.

how do some strategy games like travian or etc add game resources like wood or iron every few seconds? how do they arrange fights at a stated time despite none of the players are online? do they execute a checking every second on the server? thanx for help
